Another facet of who I am. It’s not just about eating fat.

I know this post looks like it has nothing to do with a Ketogenic diet at a quick glance but in the end when you are healthy with all kinds of extra energy you can pretty much do what ever you want.  You can do those things you are passionate about.  I know that when I’m feeing good virtually nothing stops me and I do those things I love to do that make me happy.   My photography not only makes me happy but I know I make others smile.   So many people aren’t able to get out like me and so they have a way to see the world through my eyes.                                                              Generally I don’t know where I’m going to end up or what I’m going to be doing unless I’m forced to make a plan.  My friends will tell you I don’t like to plan if I don’t have to.  Today, especially after I broke my favorite lens last week, I definitely didn’t think I’d be out taking pictures.    With that said, today was a prime example of being able to find that positive point that comes out of a bad thing.  Since I don’t like to leave home without my camera I pulled out a lens  I don’t normally use to put on my camera just to have it with me.   Now I know I should be using this lens more often.  It’s just a small 50 mm 1.4 lens but truly it is an awesome lens.  As you continue on reading you’ll be able to see my photos from today.                                                              The photos were taken at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Winfield Illinois.  This is where the Batavia Orchid Society had their annual event.  I had learned about it while I was at my Garden Club meeting earlier in the month.  After tossing the idea back and forth a bit I made the decision to go and  I’m glad I went.  I had no idea what to expect.  I not only had an opportunity to take pictures but I did learn a lot.  The one big point that sticks out in my head and I will share it with you is that you are not supposed to turn Orchid plants as you might do to your other house plants.  Rotating them totally messes up the natural process that is so important to keep in order to keep the plants flowering over and over again.  After you’ve had a plant flower for the second time it’s easy to get hooked and you’ll even think about hinting to someone who gives you flowers occasionally to give you an orchid instead of a bouquet of flowers that die.  Orchids could actually flower for months at a time.  They are absolutely beautiful.      ENJOY!   I like comments!!!

My camera lens broke!

I am so sad.  Today my camera lens malfunctioned.   I was in Chicago today for a doctor’s appointment.  If you are wondering, it went well.  My doctor gave me a clean bill of health.  It was nice to hear  her say to me that I could be an inspiration to many other people who struggle with health issues.  I don’t know about you but the anticipation of a Dr’s appointment is a bit of stresser.  It’s the unknown.  Anyone who reads my Blog knows that I follow a strict Ketogenic diet which is different then the more common American diet.  I’m on it a little over a year and very curious how it will affect my blood work up.  Last year after 4 months on the diet and everything was great!  I won’t have my current results until next week but Doc said all looked good.  I’ll keep you all posted.  Those who follow the diet with me an those who are thinking about it.                                                                                  In regards to the title of this post, referring to a broken camera lens, I never leave home without my camera and today was no different.  After my appointment I drove over to the  Buckingham fountain since it was only 10 minutes away.  It’s not running because it’s the winter but I still like to go there during the different seasons.  Snow brings on such a calmness.  Yes, even in a big city like Chicago.  The Buckingham fountain, one of the largest in the world, whether it’s gushing water 150 feet high or not is very impressive.  It’s absolutely beautiful.  It was a little weird  when I started using my camera this afternoon because it seemed to be acting up a bit.   It wouldn’t zoom in and out freely.  At this point, I had that bad feeling that there was something really wrong with it and I won’t be able to fix myself.  I didn’t let it stop me although I was feeling a little anxious.  One more time,  I had my eye to the view finder and decided to force the issue a little,  thinking, with a little bit of hope on my side I can get it to work.   Well,  that was it.  I did it!  Broken for good.  Now it doesn’t work at all.  Funny thing, the lens was moving nice and easy now but there was no more focus ability and I hear something moving inside.  Urgh!  I Guess I’ll be taking my camera and lens into a repair shop.  In the meantime I’ll need to find a back up so I’m not left with out my camera.  It’s like missing my right arm.  So this is my good story and sad story of the day.  Good for my health very sad for my camera.

Daily Post Photo Challenge

Good Day Folks, My name is Cathy and I’m going to be your Tour Guide this afternoon.

Let us begin.    Welcome to the Chicago-land area.  You’ve probably heard it called the windy city?  This is true but not because it’s windy but because of our politicians.  As we get started,  Today we are only going to see the tip of the iceberg in the amount of time we are given.  Hopefully in the future we’ll have a chance to have another session where we can explore some more.  I love my town and  I can’t wait to share it with you.  I’ve traveled all over the world and while traveling away and visiting other countries I realized I had not taken advantage of what is in my own back yard.  Chicago has so many points of interest you could stay busy for a year going to all of them.

First stop is Chicago’s finest Lincoln Park Zoo.  Here you can visit with the animals.  No touching or feeding please.  They are well taken care of.  For the children there is a petting zoo you can visit later if you like.I’ve always loved the cats.  I think they are beautiful creatures.  lincoln park zoo Next we are going to go to the Lincoln Park Conservatory since it right next door to the zoo.  If you like gardening, you’ll love the not only the flowers but the creative ideas you can get here.lincoln park conservatory 2Let’s continue across the street to the  Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. There you will experience live butterflies and birds flying around you and then reptiles which are in their own environments.butterfly house As we continue, We’ll head over to the Museum district where you can look North West over Lake Michigan and see one of the most beautiful lake fronts there is in the world.  Next time you join me we can stop at all the Museums not to mention Soldiers Field which is the Home of the Chicago Bears.26910911_10214987317747206_1206279218104321707_o (2) As we head out of the city just a little bit we’ll stop at the Garfield Conservatory where they have 3 big greenhouses. Simplify, A concept I originally started writing my Blog to stress to people.  Those who are already living by the  way of the keto diet and those who are thinking about it.  It truly is as simple as a mathematical Equation but often times people over complicate things to a point         where they can’t keep it up and then just give up.  It’s like sabotaging a good relationship.      For example, there are basic rules you need to adhere to which keep your engine in your car      running and your body is no different.  As long as you follow the basic guidelines of the keto        diet your body will run like a fine tuned machine.                                                                                                                                 In turn, you will reap the benefits for many years to come.

Keto diet, Science merging with Art!

I’m back!

I’d like to get some interaction going on this Blog.  I started it to share my journey with the keto Diet with hopes to empower others to give it a try.  One common concern I hear is they think it is a fad diet one that can not be sustained.  Well of course, I’m going to disagree because I’m doing it and I’ve been doing it for a while and it is working for me.   I do understand everyone is different so we are clear on that.  Everyone is going to have a different opinion and of course outcome.  I would just like everyone to have an open mind about it especially if they have tried many other ways to lose weight and those ways have not worked.  The keto diet is not only for losing weight but for good health and body performance.

Lets start with a little History.  I found a video that might interest you.  Take a little time to review it.  I would like for you to come back here so we could share our thoughts.  I’m here to help and spread good word.  This video is done by  Dr. Shephen Phinney and it is titled  ” The Art and Science of low-carb living and performance ”   I hope you enjoy it.

Keto Uncomplicated

I was asked. Typical day of eating is?

My answer to the question was answered in a round about way just because it’s usually not planned. 
First I want to say I don’t use any supplements other than vitamin D3 which can  protect against cancer and control inflammation, wort off heart disease and helps you sleep and can regulate your moods and immune system. and then I take K7 taken for the carboxylation of specific bone proteins needed for building bones and a green ingredient based multi right now. the vitamins change  but the d and k stay  consistent. Everyday I have coffee with heavy cream. Lots of it. Everyday I will take MCT oil, a couple of tablespoons a day. You need to start slow with this. like a teaspoon and build up. I add it to sparkling water, coffee. I love bacon and eggs cheese. I have this often. I switch off on the meats I Love such as steak and liver and salmon. Needed greens are spinach, broccoli,beans, You can snack on cheese, all kinds. Soft cheeses are very good. Like brie, cream cheese, etc. I add butter to what ever I can. raspberries, strawberries and blueberries in very moderation. Nuts in moderation. Maybe a handful when I have them. When I buy these things, I go grass-fed, wild, organic, and the MCT oil that is only made of coconuts. I eat salads with blue cheese dressing or a vinaigrette. My favorite salad is the wedge salad. I order ribs without the sauce and put butter on them. Absolutely no breads or pasta in my diet. French onion soup without the crouton, chicken noodle soup without the noodles. Pizza!
I order normal pizza and have them make it extra crispy with extra cheese vegis and sausage. I only eat the top. On occasion I’ll make a coffee with heavy cream, raw egg, MCT oil and nutmeg. raspberries with heavy cream. I make the best cheese cake keto style. I can eat the whole thing without guilt. I use Munk fruit and stevia as my sugar replacement but only once in a blue moon. as in my cheese cake. Never use other artificial sugar replacements. I hope I’m not boring everyone on this site. lol some of you are probably just sick to your stomach with my choices. This is not in one day but. As I said in the beginning we are people of habits. Even in the clothes we wear. I rotate through what I listed here and just eat til I’m full. No counting calories, and if I only eat one meal a day that is cool. I keep in mind the ratio I strive for and just think it through. It’s not rocket science although some try to make it that way. Simple is best. Please read the book, Keto Clarity
